Hello !
My name is kirstin miller my parents and I raised, trained, worked purebred McNab’s and McNab border
collies cross stock dogs since I was little. I grew up on a cattle ranch most all my life and now becoming a second generation ranch gal and running our dogs
through high mouthiness terrain in Wallowa and la Grande County of northeastern Oregon from 2003 –
2007.
In 2008 my family and I moved to a ranch in the high desert area of Harney County in the southeastern
part of Oregon. Where our McNab’s are currently being raised, trained on cattle and sheep, as well as
been raised around family and friends. McNab’s make good great family and guard dogs, I have had a
passion for this breed and spend a lot of time using my dogs on our ranch and how well they are built to
be tuff to withstand the heat and rough terrain of the high desert area.
Since 2020 As a second generation ranch gal and slowly building my own small heard of stock along with friend helping and giving me pointers and I have decided to become more a part of the McNab stock dog foundation, in doing more
research in finding out that we need to start preserving more of this breed and keeping it pure at its
finest so that they don’t end up passing on genetic health problems. Since Alexander McNab was the
first person to create this breed back in 1865 and the breeds that he put together were scotch collies or
fox collies which was an ancestor of the border collie these dogs became toughest breed ever combined
and have had rare genetic health issues.
In today’s society the McNab stock dog breed is slowly going
down hill and not staying pure like it used to, a lot of the times people that are so called breeders let
these dogs breed up with other dogs that makes them more susceptible and getting genetic health
issues such as hip dysplasia, and many others and or end up being in shelters.
Since I had found out from other breeders that this breed has been slowly going downhill because of
people not being responsible. I have decided to keep this breed going and stay original. I have come up
with doing stud services and preserving the McNab genetics in stud semen collections and freezing in
putting the genetics into the tank. I give other responsible breeders a chance to breed with my McNab
studs in keeping the good working breeding lines going from in state or out state in the US .
As a breeder when it comes to breeding with my studs, I ask the other breeder that has the female dog if they have had a genetic health test done and that they are clear and free from genetic health issues and low percentage of the coefficient of inbreeding in order to perform good quality heathy pups to be passed on to the next generation of good working McNab breeding lines.
I love talking about the McNab stock dog breed in educating people about them, and in breeding ,
raising training. When you invest in using High Valley McNab’s stud services and genetics. You are
helping to keep this breed going.
